Research Activity
The research activity of the Department of Physical and Economic Geography focuses on the study of natural environment components, geoecological assessment, GIS and remote sensing technologies, landscape dynamics, rational use of water resources, and sustainable development.
Main Research Areas
- geoecological studies of natural environment components and environmental monitoring;
- assessment and forecasting of landscape dynamics;
- application of GIS and remote sensing technologies in geographical research;
- management and protection of water resources, analysis of hydrological processes under climate change;
- assessment of agrolandscapes, landscape planning, and development of recreational resources;
- environmental education and integration of sustainable development principles into the educational process.

Student Research
The department organizes research work for students and master's students through subject Olympiads, national and international conferences, research projects, the “Gylym jane bilim” conference, and student research competitions. Students conduct research in geography, hydrology, and geography teacher training under the supervision of department faculty members.
Integration of Research Results into Education
The department uses research results to update educational programs, improve laboratory and practical classes, organize field studies, and develop topics for graduation projects.
