Practice for the Educational Program 6B05209 – "Geography"
1st Year: Introductory Field Practice
Practice Period: End of the 2nd semester
Location: "Tumar" Educational and Wellness Center at L.N. Gumilyov ENU, Akmola Region, Zerenda District, Zerenda Village
Objective: To consolidate students' theoretical knowledge in geography and develop practical skills in conducting field research.
Main Tasks:
- Mastering field research methods and documenting observation results;
- Conducting microclimatic observations and compiling the climatic characteristics of the study area;
- Working with geodetic instruments (GPS, compass, level, measuring tape, tablet);
- Processing field data, analyzing cartographic and digital materials;
- Studying the interconnections between natural components;
- Sampling forest zone soils, analyzing their properties and mechanical composition;
- Mastering tourism techniques, safety regulations, and expeditionary work;
- Developing ecological awareness and encouraging environmental conservation.
2nd Year: Field Practice in Landscape Science
Practice Period: End of the 4th semester
Location: Almaty Region (Issyk Lake, Turgen Gorge, Charyn Canyon, Big Almaty Lake, Shymbulak), Altai Region (Russia), Bashkortostan Republic (Russia)
Objective: To master field landscape research methodologies and gain experience in assessing natural systems.
Main Tasks:
- Identifying and mapping geosystems in field conditions;
- Mastering landscape profiling techniques;
- Analyzing interconnections between components of the natural environment;
- Studying anthropogenic changes in natural systems.
3rd Year: Industrial Practice
Practice Period: End of the 6th semester
Location: Industrial enterprises, research institutes, government institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan
Objective: To adapt students to the professional environment and apply theoretical knowledge in real industrial settings.
Main Tasks:
- Studying the structure and activities of an enterprise;
- Applying geographical research methods;
- Investigating the efficient use of industrial and natural resources;
- Assessing environmental impact and analyzing ecological problems;
- Collecting and processing cartographic, statistical, and analytical data.
4th Year: Pedagogical Practice
Practice Period: 8th semester
Location: Secondary schools, colleges, gymnasiums
Objective: To prepare students for teaching activities, master geography teaching methodologies, and develop skills in working with students.
Main Tasks:
- Mastering geography teaching methodologies;
- Planning, developing, and conducting lessons;
- Organizing interaction with students and assessing their academic performance;
- Using interactive teaching methods;
- Organizing the learning process and working with educational materials;
- Establishing communication with school staff and administration.
4th Year: Pre-Diploma Practice
Practice Period: 8th semester
Location: Research institutes, universities, government institutions, geographic research centers
Objective: To collect materials for a diploma thesis, conduct scientific research, analyze practical data, and apply them in scientific work.
Main Tasks:
- Mastering scientific research methods;
- Collecting, processing, and analyzing data;
- Using geographic maps, GIS, and other research tools;
- Conducting expeditionary research;
- Participating in scientific conferences and seminars.
