Familiarisation excursion to Astana-Energy JSC TPP -2
December 5, 2023 students of the 3rd year of the educational programme "6B05208 - Ecology and Nature Management" of L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University visited JSC "Astana-Energy" TPP-2, where an introductory tour of the work of the environmental protection department and boiler shop was conducted.
The purpose of this excursion is to form the students' understanding of the work of equipment and facilities in the industrial environmental control at the enterprise, as well as mastering the skills of laboratory environmental studies to determine compliance and non-compliance in the activities of JSC "Astana-Energy" to the existing requirements of the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, environmental standards, norms and rules.
The environmental department has developed a special programme consisting of several stages:
- Theoretical training:
- Conducting induction training at the strategic site in order to comply with safety regulations;
- Lecture on the principles of functioning of boiler units as sources of atmospheric pollution;
- Study of legal requirements, environmental standards, norms and regulations related to industrial environmental control.
- Practical training:
- Excursion to the boiler shop for direct familiarisation with the equipment and treatment facilities;
- Carrying out laboratory environmental studies to determine the compliance of the enterprise's activities with the requirements of legislation and environmental standards.
- Discussions and deliberations:
- Organising discussions and group discussions after the tour and practical sessions to discuss the findings, identify problematic issues and find solutions.
- Summarisation:
- Concluding part where students provided their conclusions, suggestions to improve the environmental situation at the enterprise and exchanged opinions.
Students received not only theoretical knowledge, but also practical skills in conducting environmental studies and analysing the compliance of the company's activities with environmental standards. In addition, students got acquainted with the job functions of environmental engineers at the enterprise: implementation of environmental control in accordance with Chapter 13 of the Environmental Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan from 2 January 2021 № 400-VI and the International Standard ISO 14001 "Environmental Management System", as well as other legislative acts in the field of environmental protection.
This excursion helped students to better understand the problems of environmental pollution at production facilities and the ways to solve them in accordance with the legislation and standards.
