June 5 in ENU named after L.N. Gumilyov trees are planted according to the results of ecological action
June 5, 2024, within the framework of the World Day of Environment Protection, on the territory of the Eurasian National University named after L.N. Gumilyov there was a solemn planting of trees, with the participation of the rector of ENU Erlan Sydykov, deans of all faculties, faculty members of the Department of Environmental Management and Engineering and students of ecologists. This event was the result of the ecological action, carried out by the student ecological club “Ecologist” from May 13 to June 4, 2024. The environmental action was aimed at: Forming a sustainable waste collection model with the involvement of youth, promoting green principles and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This initiative became part of the university's sustainable development policy and supported the national tree planting project implemented on behalf of the President of Kazakhstan.
During the action 1.5 tons of waste paper was collected from all faculties of the university. On the proceeds purchased 5 seedlings of pine trees. With the assistance of the Department of Infrastructural Development of the University pine trees were delivered and prepared places for their planting.
Thanks to the environmental action, 15 trees were saved from being cut down (every 100 kg of recycled waste paper saves one adult tree from being cut down), and a contribution was made to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
The action not only contributed to the reduction of paper waste, but also became an important step towards the formation of environmentally conscious youth. Students' participation in such initiatives raises their awareness of the importance of sustainable practices and contributes to the conservation of natural resources.
The student ecological club “Ecologist” will continue its work on promotion of ecological initiatives and involvement of youth in active activity on protection of the environment. ENU named after L.N. Gumilyov is proud of its students and their contribution to the development of a sustainable future.
